2023 is literally around the corner and it’s time to start planning for what you want to achieve in the new year. I don’t know about you but I plan on kicking butt and taking names (figuratively of course). I’ve realized that I have been stuck in survival mood for way too long and now I’m laser-focused on what I want to achieve in the coming months. Whether you want to set big goals or small goals, you’ll need to have the right plan in place to make sure you stay on track. In this blog post, I’ll provide you with tips on how to prepare your goal planning for 2023 and ensure that you start the new year off right.
This post is all about goal planning for 2023
It’s the start of a new year, and you have the opportunity to make this one count! With the right planning and preparation, you can make sure that you reach your goals in 2023. Goal planning is an important part of success; it helps you define what you want to achieve, set a timeline for when you want to achieve it, and most importantly, it helps you stay motivated and focused.
The first step in goal planning is to set your goals for the new year. This can be anything from career aspirations to personal goals that you want to reach. Once you have your goals in mind, you can start to create a plan for how you’re going to reach them.
Setting Goals for the New Year
When it comes to setting goals for the new year, it’s important to make sure that they are achievable and realistic. That means avoiding things like “I want to make a million dollars this year” or “I want to be the best at my job”. Instead, focus on specific goals that you can actively work towards, such as “I want to increase my salary by 10%” or “I want to become an expert in my field”. Trust me, you’ll seem a lot less delusional if you do. Heck, who am I kidding? I still would love a million dollars by the end of next year. But if you haven’t made your first $100,000 it’s probably unlikely you’ll get to 1 million in one fell swoop. This leads me to my next point.
You should also make sure that your goals are measurable. This means that you should be able to track your progress toward them and see how you’re doing. For example, if your goal is to increase your salary, make sure that you have a specific number or percentage in mind and set a timeline for when you want to achieve it.
Understanding Your Motivations
Once you have your goals in mind, it’s important to understand why you want to achieve them. Having a clear understanding of why you want to reach your goals will help you stay motivated and focused. For example, if your goal is to increase your salary by 10%, think about why you want to do that. Is it to pay off debt, save for a house, or just have more financial security?
Understanding your motivations will also help you to stay on track and ensure that you don’t get distracted from your goals. It’s easy to get sidetracked when you don’t have a clear understanding of why you’re doing something, so make sure you have a clear understanding of why you want to reach your goals.
Identify Your Strengths and Weaknesses
Once you have a clear understanding of your goals and motivations, it’s time to identify your strengths and weaknesses. This is an important step in goal planning as it will help you to understand what skills you need to acquire or improve in order to reach your goals. Me, I am confident in my creativity and strong work ethic however my pesky imposter syndrome likes to rear its ugly little head to fill me with fear and boat load of negative self-talk. That’s why it’s crucial to get ahead of it by planning for those moments.
Take some time to identify the skills that you already have and the areas that you need to work on. This will help you to create a plan for how you’re going to reach your goals and ensure that you have the right resources in place to do so.
Making Plans to Achieve Your Goals
Now that you have identified your goals, motivations, strengths and weaknesses, it’s time to start making plans to achieve your goals. This involves breaking down your goals into even smaller, more achievable tasks and setting a timeline for when you want to complete those as well. I am very guilty of biting off more than I can chew, trying to do every and all things all at once. Then getting upset with myself when I can’t. It’s pure madness I tell ya!
Creating a plan for how you’re going to reach your goals will help to keep you on track and ensure that you don’t get sidetracked. It also makes it easier to stay motivated as you can see your progress. I like to keep it simple: ONE GOAL A DAY! If I do that then I’m golden.
Setting Up a Schedule to Stay on Track
I’m going to let you in on a little secret: I’m annoyingly obsessed with my Google Calendar. If I wasn’t so in love with my sexy, black, Vincentian Adonis, I’d probably marry it. Once you have your plan in place, it’s time to set up a schedule to ensure that you stay on track. This means setting aside time each day or week to work on your goals and making sure that you stick to it.
Creating a schedule also ensures that you don’t get overwhelmed by your goals. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you’re trying to do too many things at once, so having a schedule in place will help to keep you focused and motivated. Plus it’s freaking fun, I love to customize my Google Calendar because it makes the process of planning more exciting.
Creating a Support Network
Having a support network is an important part of goal planning for the new year. This could be a group of friends or family members who can help to keep you motivated and provide feedback on your progress. It’s also important to have someone who can offer advice and help to keep you on track if you find yourself struggling with your goals such as a therapist and life coach. I have both so I get the best of both worlds.
Creating a support network will also help to keep you accountable and ensure that you don’t give up on what you set out to accomplish. Having someone to talk to and provide encouragement will help you stay focused and motivated.
Staying Focused and Motivated
Staying focused and motivated is one of the most important parts of goal planning. It’s easy to get sidetracked or give up on your goals when you don’t have the right mindset. As mentioned before, one of the best ways to stay focused and motivated is to set small, achievable goals and importantly reward yourself when you reach them. This will help to keep you enjoying the ride more. So many times we get so focused on the end result that we forget to fully embrace the journey along the way. All the failures and small and/or big wins make achieving your goal feels so freaking good in the end.
On that note, remember to take breaks when needed. It’s easy to burn out if you don’t take breaks and allow yourself to relax and recharge. You may not see it now but it may cost you in the long run. I’m still recovering from my manic episode which was triggered by burning my candle at both ends. And it cost me time, money, and MY HEALTH. Even though I turned my lemons into lemonade and birthed Dopamine On The Rocks. I’d rather not experience that again. EVER! So take regular breaks!
Celebrating Your Success
You’ve done it! You’ve planned, worked, cried, worked so more and now it’s complete. Finally, you’re at the finish line, and… you’re just gonna tick that goal off the list and move on?! Oh no no no. It’s time to celebrate! Celebrating your success will help to reinforce the idea and train your brain that you are capable of reaching your goals and will motivate you to keep going. Whenever I accomplish a goal of mine, I break out into a mini dance session to celebrate.
It can also be helpful to review your progress and reflect on what you have achieved. This will help you to understand what worked and what didn’t and will help you to make adjustments for the future.
Conclusion
Goal planning is a crucial part of success as having the right plan in place will help ensure that you stay on track. In this blog post, I’ve provided you with tips on how to prepare your goal planning for 2023 and make sure that you start the new year off right.
